Our Team

Our team has a combined experience of 40+ years investing together at FPE Capital

The collective experience and stability of the FPE team is a core strength of our business and we understand that growth companies wish to partner with experienced and collegiate individuals and teams. We come from a variety of backgrounds, including operational management roles, banking, accounting and finance – but we all have significant experience in working with businesses as they go through the challenges specific to managing high growth and building teams.

David Barbour, Managing Partner

David joined the team as a full time executive in 2006 and became co-head of the team in April 2008. He has led a number of private equity investments and exits. David sits on the board of Optimity.

He started a career in the broadcast media and became a lawyer then investment banker at Robert Fleming and JP Morgan Chase prior to joining the Stonehage Fleming Group in January 2003. He joined Robert Fleming in 1995 after spending a year with UK cable company NTL. He qualified as a corporate lawyer with London firm Ashurst Morris Crisp.

Henry Sallitt, Managing Partner

Henry joined the team in September 2007 and became co-head of the team in April 2008. He has a long experience both of the direct private equity industry and significant operational experience within growth companies.

Prior to joining the team he was a Director of Quester, one of the largest growth capital investors in the UK. This followed eight years at AFA Systems plc, a financial services software company which he co-founded as a private equity investor and joined full-time immediately prior to its IPO in 1996. From its foundation, Henry was part of a small team that drove the development of the group, both organically and by acquisition. AFA was sold to Microgen plc in September 2004.

Prior to AFA Systems, Henry spent six years investing in technology companies with Top Technology Limited, managers of the Hambros Advanced Technology Trust family of funds. He qualified as a chartered accountant with Price Waterhouse.

Henry sits on the boards of Ikon Science, Small World Financial Services, David Phillips, Kallidus and Questionmark.

Dan Walker, Partner

Dan joined the team in October 2008. His responsibilities include origination and execution of new investments and portfolio management. He has over 10 years’ experience in the asset management and banking industry and prior to joining the team, he worked in the acquisition and leveraged finance teams at Royal Bank of Scotland and Singer & Friedlander.

During this period, he completed a large number of UK mid-market transactions across a broad range of sectors, including healthcare, leisure, defence and business and support services.

Dan has a first class honours degree in History and Politics from the University of Leeds and holds the Investment Management Certificate. Dan was involved in the successful investment and exit of EIS Optics and he currently sits on the boards of Small World Financial Services Group, CreditCall and David Phillips.

Llewellyn John, Partner

Llew joined the team in April 2012, having co-invested with and worked alongside members of the FPE Capital team during the investment in EIS Optics, which was exited successfully in October 2011. His responsibilities encompass all aspects of the investment cycle, from deal origination, due diligence and execution through ongoing board representation and exit management. Llew sits on the board of Sohonet, Optimity and Questionmark.

Prior to joining the team, he worked for six years at Nova Capital Management, a private equity firm specialising in acquiring multiple small to medium sized businesses in single transactions and improving them through significant operational interaction. He graduated from Cambridge University with a degree in Natural Sciences in 1998, qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Deloitte in 2002 and subsequently worked there in corporate finance for a number of years.

Henry Ropner, Investment Director

Henry joined the team in September 2008 from the M&A division of Lehman Brothers International. Henry has 9 years’ experience working with unquoted companies and is responsible for origination of investment opportunities, due diligence coordination and post investment portfolio management. Henry sits on the boards of portfolio companies Sohonet and Kallidus.

Henry holds a First Class degree in Engineering from the University of Edinburgh and a Master’s degree in Finance & Investment from Edinburgh University Management School. Henry qualified as a Chartered Accountant with PWC in 2007 and is an IMC holder.

Kenny Miller, Finance Director

Kenny joined the team in May 2014 as Finance Director from Hutton Collins Capital Partners, where he was Financial Controller between 2012 and 2014. Prior to this he was at 3i from 2005 to 2011 where he was Fund Controller for the US$1.2bn Indian Infrastructure Fund between 2008 and 2011 and fund accountant for the £3bn European Buyout Fund between 2005 and 2008. Before this Kenny also held fund roles at State Street and Bank of New York. Kenny is a fully qualified ACCA and a graduate of Napier University, Edinburgh where he graduated with a 2.1 BA (Hons) Accounting.

Andrew Joy, Chairman, Investment Committee

Andrew chairs the FPE Capital Investment Committee.

Andrew is also a Senior Advisor to Cinven, where he spent 21 years as a founder and partner. He is Senior Independent Director of The Biotech Growth Trust plc and a trustee of a number of charities. Andrew’s career has been in private equity and he is a former chairman of the British Venture Capital Association and a director of its European equivalent, the EVCA. He is a graduate of New College, Oxford. He joined the Stonehage Fleming group in 2013 and he remains a Senior Advisor to the group.
