FPE Capital Charity beach clean for the Marine Conservation Society

Every year, the FPE Capital team undertakes a charity challenge to support various people-focused charities. In recent years, we’ve climbed the Three Peaks in 24hrs, walked 100km along the Jurassic Coast, and even completed a virtual & socially distanced 852 mile walk during a Covid lockdown.

However, this year, we wanted to help actively support an growing issue in our world; the harm and damage plastics are doing to our environment.

On the 1 July, the team at FPE and Lizzie Prior, from the Marine Conservation Society, met at Brighton beach and removed 4 kg of litter, averaging at 247 items, 46% of which was made up of plastic/ polystyrene. By recording our findings on their litter database, we were able to provide vital data to fuel the MSC’s litter campaigns and help affect real change.

The Marine Conservation Society are a charity which fight for the future of our ocean through people-powered action – with science on their side. They currently secure space where species and habitats can recover and are campaigning for a minimum of 30% of UK waters being effectively managed by 2030 to protect wildlife and ecosystems. For a better-protected and healthier ocean, they also work to promote sustainable fishing and seafood to minimise harm, promising to identify and prevent the main sources of pollution by working with businesses and governments towards a cleaner ocean. There are many simple ways to make positive steps for ocean-friendly living, both at work and at home, which you can learn more about by visiting www.mcsuk.org/ocean-friendly-living/
