FPE Capital to walk 100km for Ataxia

FPE News

16th May 2019

In 2018 the FPE Capital team resolved to complete an annual challenge to support people-focused UK charities. We kick-started the first team challenge by scaling the national three peaks and raised over £9,500 for three children’s charities. Determined to surpass those efforts this year, we have committed to walk up to 100km (2 1/2 marathons!) along the Jurassic Coast in support of Ataxia UK on 8 June 2019. Several friends from our portfolio companies and advisers have agreed to join us.

Managing Partner, Henry Sallitt, is leading the team from Poole Harbour in a continuous stretch of 100km to Bridport. The charity we have chosen, Ataxia UK, support research into the development of treatments and cures for Ataxia. Ataxia is a rare neurological disorder, the effects of which are profound and brutal, with the loss of balance, coordination and speech ultimately leading to severe disability and significantly curtailed life expectancy. Henry’s niece was diagnosed with the condition at the age of 14. Henry said

“Friedreich’s Ataxia is an awful degenerative genetic condition and I am determined, with Ataxia UK, to do everything we can to advance a cure to stop the ruin of more young people’s lives. Please help us in this cause”.

With one month to go the team have adopted a variety of conventional and somewhat more unconventional training methods in preparation (Henry walking to and from meetings wearing weighted ankle straps is one the wider team questions the benefit of…). The team welcome all donations big and small which can be made here https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Team/FPECapital1 to help Ataxia advance treatments and find a cure. Thank you for your support.
