FPE team conquers Three Peaks Challenge in support of Cure Parkinson's

FPE News

8th July 2024

On July 4th, 2024, the FPE team completed the Three Peaks Challenge, a demanding test of endurance, determination and teamwork. Over 24 hours, they scaled the highest peaks in Scotland, England, and Wales, all in support of Cure Parkinson's and its mission to fund crucial research for a cure.

The Challenge

The Three Peaks Challenge is no small feat, requiring climbers to summit Ben Nevis in Scotland (1,345 meters), Scafell Pike in England (978 meters), and Snowdon in Wales (1,085 meters) in just 24 hours. The team undertook this challenge not just for adventure but to make a real impact in the fight against Parkinson’s disease.

Ben Nevis: The Start of the Journey

The challenge began with the ascent of Ben Nevis, the highest peak in Scotland and the UK. Despite the freezing weather conditions (-10 degrees), heavy snow and challenging terrain, the team’s spirits were high. Along the way, one team member faced the unexpected challenge of a broken shoe, requiring an on-the-spot repair on the mountain. Despite these obstacles, reaching the summit was an exhilarating experience that set the tone for the rest of the challenge.

Scafell Pike: The Midpoint

After successfully descending Ben Nevis, the team headed to Scafell Pike. This leg of the journey tested their stamina as they pushed through fatigue. The rugged paths and steep inclines of Scafell Pike demanded every ounce of their strength and resilience. Nevertheless, the team remained motivated, knowing the impact their efforts would have on supporting Cure Parkinson's.

Snowdown: The Final Peak

The team faced Snowdon as their last challenge, starting the climb in the middle of the night with only headlamps to guide them. Despite growing tiredness, their determination remained strong. As daylight broke, the sun finally appeared as they neared the summit. Reaching the top of Snowdon marked the end of their remarkable 24-hour journey.

Supporting Cure Parkinson's

The motivation behind this formidable challenge was not just the physical achievement but the opportunity to contribute to a cause close to our hearts. Parkinson's disease affects millions worldwide, and Cure Parkinson's is at the forefront of funding research to find a cure. By taking on the Three Peaks Challenge, the FPE team aimed to raise awareness and funds to support these crucial efforts.

To date, the FPE team have raised over £18,000 for Cure Parkinson's. Thank you to everyone who has donated. Although the challenge is complete, our mission continues. There is still time to support Cure Parkinson's by making a donation. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, brings us one step closer to a cure. You can donate here.
