Llewellyn John joined a panel at UK Private Capital’s 'Accelerate' conference this week to discuss the themes shaping the next generation of UK growth businesses: talent, capital, and operations.
Moderated by Malcolm MacDougall of Stephenson Harwood, alongside Joanne Hosker of Northern Gritstone, James Codling of Volution and Matthew Connor of BGF, the conversation explored how software and technology companies are adapting as AI increasingly influences both operational models and competitive dynamics.
One theme came through consistently throughout the discussion: while AI is creating significant opportunities to improve productivity and accelerate growth, technology alone is rarely enough. Building the right leadership team - with the operational capability and experience required for the next stage of growth - remains fundamental to scaling successfully.
The panel also discussed the practical ways AI is already being deployed across portfolio companies, helping management teams streamline processes, improve efficiency, and focus resources more effectively.
